Over the past 9 years, Beary Potter Studio has explored various pottery courses and methods, aiming to make pottery more accessible and enjoyable for our students.
This year marks our 9th anniversary. Alongside continuing to develop pottery courses, we will also be launching our glass lampworking class.
Glass lampworking involves melting glass using a torch or lamp. Our first encounter with glass lampworking was in Otaru, Hokkaido. Otaru is a romantic town filled with various glassworks, a significant portion of which are lampworked glass pieces.
During a visit to pottery studios in China last year, we had the opportunity to explore lampworking. The excitement and freshness felt were similar to our first encounter with pottery.
Both pottery and lampworking involve working with silica, and the high-temperature silica used in lampworking is a familiar material to us. After consideration, we decided to bring this course back to Malaysia.
This art form is relatively unfamiliar in Malaysia, but we believe those who have experienced it will be as fascinated as we are.
